Want a Harry Potter remake? Just cast Stranger Things actors.
Dear Potterheads, it would be awesome if we can have a remake of the Harry Potter series in a form of TV drama. There would be no problem about the cast as we have the Stranger Things actors to fill in the gap.
I would like to offer my deepest gratitude to Vlad Yashin, an artist from Russia, who has created the Stranger Things - Harry Potter crossover artwork.
His artwork has triggered my fingers to type this article. All credits belong to him. I am here to support his ingenious creation.
I would never thought Finn Wolfhard as Harry Potter or Millie Bobby Brown as Hermione Granger, without Yashin’s artwork vision.
However, there is one problem. Their age. We cannot ask the 15-year-old Wolfhard to act as an 11-year-old Harry Potter.
What we can do is to spin the series. The series could start from the Deathly Hallows. If the cast of Stranger Things already reached their 20s during the shooting of the series, they still can act as a 17-year-old.
A simple analogy is the 25-year-old Cole Sprouse, who is acting as a high school student, Jughead Jones in Riverdale.
Even if the Stranger Things casts are not suitable to be Hogwarts students in their 20s, we can have a series about Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger after they left Hogwarts, when they work in the Ministry of Magic.
It could be like Mad Men, but Ministry of Magic, instead of an advertising firm.
By using Yashin’s artwork as a reference, here are the Stranger Things actors, cast in J.K. Rowling’s infamous saga.
Noah Schnapp (Will Byers) as Draco Malfoy
Yashin’s portrait of Schnapp as Malfoy showed that he has the similar haircut like Will but the color is white blonde.
Malfoy’s character could be a challenge for Schnapp as Malfoy has a cocky personality, absolutely a high contrast compared to Will’s personality who is fragile after he was ‘kidnapped’ to The Upside Down and ‘possessed’ by the Mind Flayer.
But, if Schnapp succeeded, we could see him transformed from the emotional ‘zombie boy’ in Hawkins to a high-class wizard in the Malfoy’s Manor.
Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin Henderson) as Ron Weasley
Well, a huge effort is needed to straighten up that curls.
Weasley’s character on Matarazzo’s persona would be a downright bizarre. We know Matarazzo through the goofy Henderson. And he will act as someone who is not-so-goofy.
We know Ron as an envious person. Very humble. Could be too humble, living in a family, who are not so loaded with luxury. We could see Matarazzo as a serious person as Weasley.
Joe Keery (Steve Harrington), Dacre Montgomery (Billy Hargrove), and Charlie Heaton (Jonathan Byers) as the Weasley brothers
They are not portrayed (yet) in Yashin’s artwork but they can dye their hair red and be a ginger cum accidental doppelgangers.
Based on their characters’ personality in Stranger Things, Keery as Harrington is a famous boy in school. However, considering his character changed into a caring elder brother and his barbaric attack towards the Demogorgon, he can be Charlie Weasley, who works with the dragons in Romania.
Heaton as Jonathan is a caring elder brother since the beginning. Let him be Bill Weasley. I initially wanted Natalie Dyer (Nancy Wheeler) to be Fleur Delacour, but maybe not. Save Delacour for a French actress. And Dyer deserves a better character than Delacour.
It is hard to imagine Montgomery as Hargrove to be Percy Weasley. But actually, he can. Hargrove is as dry as Percy. A very controlled person minus the punching brutality. Percy is strict like Hargrove. The only difference is Percy did not use physical attributes to respond to a problem and he is not a psycho.
However, if we want these three hunks to act a character outside from their comfort zone, Keery can be Percy, Heaton can be Charlie, and Montgomery can be Bill.
Finn Wolfhard (Mike Wheeler) as Harry Potter
Black hair, messy hair, the leader of the clan, Wolfhard is a perfect Harry Potter. Period.
Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven) as Hermione Granger
I hate Dr. Martin Brenner because he exploited Eleven to be telekinetic, without giving her a proper education.
The result? Eleven was a girl with a superpower but barely can speak a full sentence.
Casting Brown as Granger would be phenomenal. It is time for Brown to channel her determination through Granger’s voice. We want to see Brown/Eleven to be a bright person. Who needs a telekinetic power if you have a wand?
Meanwhile, we could see on screen, Brown weds Matarazzo. It is like seeing Dustin Henderson getting married to Eleven. Hmm…
Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas Sinclair) as Neville Longbottom
Understand that Yashin put McLaughlin as Dean Thomas. But, Longbottom has more juice in his backstory. We need someone awesome to portray him.
If Harry Potter and the Cursed Child can cast Noma Dumezweni as Granger, why not McLaughlin as Longbottom?
Sadie Sink (Maxine Mayfield) as Ginny Weasley
She is already a redhead. Use that to an advantage.
And, it is like seeing Mike Wheeler is getting married with MADMAX.
Now, now, there are more (senior) cast members who are not mentioned here. Winona Ryder (Joyce Byers) and David Harbour (Chief Jim Hopper).
Any suggestions on what role they should take in the Harry Potter universe? Comment your thoughts below.
