Helen Mirren is not going to be Queen in The Crown - maybe it is for the best
Helen Mirren was fantastic in 2006 The Queen that earned her an Oscar. We wanted her to be in the Netflix’s The Crown after Olivia Colman will be stepping down as the Queen. Mirren could snatch an Emmy or a Globe.
My previous article was so positive, looking forward to Helen Mirren and Meryl Streep (as Margaret Thatcher) to be on screen together, to drop a sensation bomb towards Season 5 and 6 of The Crown.
That dream was shattered, when Mirren wanted other actresses to try their luck, to reprise the most influential woman in the world.
Maybe it is for the best.
When Claire Foy portrayed the young Queen, people were looking forward to her acting masterpiece. She became one of the most famous Golden Globes’ recipient.
And, when Olivia Colman was announced to replace Foy while Helena Bonham Carter will be replacing Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret, the fans of the show went frenzy. They cannot wait for these two to decorate the dashboard of the Netflix's website.
Imagine if Helen Mirren is confirmed to be the Queen in later seasons? People would say, “Okay, cool, awesome, she is great. Yeay.” There is no shock. There is no awe moment.
Who knows, the momentum of the show could be stagnant.
Mirren as the Queen is too predictable.
